Ballina's Jason
Devaney came through a field of 98
players and a full weeks play to
capture the Pontins 12-15 age group
title on Friday. The youngster
joins a prestigious list of players
to win the title including many
players currently on the main tour.
Around 10 players traveled from
Ireland to compete for the week in
Pontins but Devaney was the only
one to survive the group stages and
reach the knockouts. The
Last 32 saw Jason defeat George
Marter 2-0, Welsh International
Jamie Clarke was next to fall this
time 3-0 as Jason reached the
quarter finals. Scotland's junior
International Jamie Stewart was
next up and Jason saw him off 3-1
to set up a match with highly
regarded English International Sam
Craigie. Craigie went 2-0 up in the
semi final but Jason fought back to
win the match 3-2 and reach the
final where he would meet Dwayne
Jones who had earlier seen off the
very impressive Danny McCann from
England. The
final however was all Devaney,
running out a 3-0 winner taking the
title and the £2,000 worth of
sponsorship which is made up of
free entries into all Pontins
events such as the Pontins Festival
during the summer, The Under-21
Series and the Pro Am Series with
free accommodation included also. Jason
will also receive free Pontins gear
such as a new waistcoat with the
Pontins logo and free shirts and
polo shirts bearing the logo also.
All in all the victory should give
Devaney the confidence to bring his
game on further and he will
certainly be known now in England
if he wasn't already as he follows
the likes of Judd Trump and Ronnie
O'Sullivan who have all won that
event in the past.
