The (2) Billiards Ranking Tournament of the season was held on Sunday 21st October '07 at the Ivy Rooms in Carlow.
It was a disappointing turnout with only seven players in attendance on the day.
Play commenced shortly after 11 am with Phil Martin and Aidan Murray on table no.l0. This match dragged on for some hours with victory going to Aidan in the end, Phil had several chances but failed to get over the finishing
line first! (400 to 368)
Robert Mc Crum played Joe Doheny in their first match and Robbie played some nice billiards to beat Joe on this occasion. (400 to 333)
James Moore tussled it out with Aonghus Mc Anally on table no.8. James played very well in this his first match of the day with breaks of 130 and 66, to reach 400 with Aonghus on 360.
We had a newcomer to billiards in this tournament by the name of Joe Robinson. Joe mainly plays in the snooker events, but has decided to give the billiards a try. Aidan Murray was Joe's opponent for the first match and it
was Aidan with all his experience who won the match by 400 to 330. (Joe had got bye to semi) .
In the other semi final Robert Mc Crum played James Moore, but James was in great form and won the match in very quick time (400 to 333).
The final was contested by two familiar opponents on the billiard table, James Moore v Aidan Murray. James controlled the match from the very start and made a super break of 139 at around halfway stage helping him to maintain
his advantage. However, Aidan was not prepared to hand James the match without a fight and strung together a terrific break of 132 to put some pressure back on James. Luckily by now James was nearly over the finish line and he won the
match with two more visits to the table. (Moore 400 to Murray 318)
Unfortunately Brendan Devlin was away so Robert Mc Crum with the assistance of James Moore ran the event on the day.
Thanks again to Marian and Staff at the Ivy Rooms for making all most welcome as usual.
