Jason Devaney from Ballina won the 3rd Under-16 ranking event in the Masters Snooker club Shannon
Co.Clare at the weekend when he
beat David Cassidy from Cork in a excellent final 3 frames to 1.
Both players played excellent snooker through-out the long day of which started at 10.30am Sunday morning and the final finished after
9pm on the Sunday night.
In the semi finals David Cassidy had a excellent win over current
No.1 seed Andrew Gray 3- 2 to reach his first national
Under 16 final.
Jason Devaney himself had a excellent win over number 2 seed Daniel O Regan from Cork
in the other semi final, despite the 3-0 score line the match was a very close game.
It was in the Q-Final round were all the action really started with Keith Walsh almost caused a big upset before losing 3-2 to Andrew
Gray, but Keith must get confidence from the way he played, Sammy Hassan played solid snooker in his match against David Cassidy before Cassidy pulled away for 3 frames to 1 victory.
Daniel Dempsey played a very good match against Jason Devaney and all frames were close but Devaney was too sharp on the day and won 3
frames to nil. The final match in the q-finals was Josh Boileau against Daniel Dempsey and it went all the way with Josh playing his best snooker, but O'Regan stood up and battled back to win the match 3 frames to 2.
The Plate event was also a great competition on the day, and this event gives players who might have been unlucky to have been drawn
against a top seed in round 1 to compete and win the plate tournament.
This is exactly what
Mark Rowan and Jamie Spain did after both had been beaten in round
one, and in the final both players turned on a
great display of snooker, with
Mark Rowan made a professional clearance to win the event.
This result opened up the race for the seasons No.1 spot and Devaney, Gray, Cassidy, O
Regan will all have a chance to finish up number
one after the last event of the Under 16 series.
PJ Nolan the RIBSA national coach was the tournament director for this event and he was very impresses with a the players who were
competing in Shannon and he stated that the future is looking good for Irish snooker with players like Devaney, Cassidy Regan, Gray and he believes that the next players to watch out for are, Josh Boileau Jamie
Spain, Keith Walsh Gary Power,
Mark Rowan, Daniel Dempsey, Christopher Cooney.
Kevin Doherty, Noel McNamara and Ray Scullion all did a great job refereeing the matches
through-out the day including all the semi finals and the final in both the tournament and the plate competition.
In Jason’s victory speech he thanks the masters club for a excellent tournament, He also thanked PJ Nolan who has been coaching and
guiding him in the past 14 months and his confidence so high after winning in pontins last week and now winning here and he also thanked his parents and family for all their help traveling and supporting him to play
in all the events all around Ireland.
There was a number of 40+ breaks on the day, but it was Andrew Gray from Waterford lifting the high break prize with a 81 break.
RIBSA would like to thank the Masters snooker club in
Shannon
for the great facilities through-out the day.
