Caesars Palace Snooker Club hosted the Connacht Club Championship last Saturday. A total of eight teams took part in what turned out to be a very high quality event. With the eight teams split into two
groups of four most of the matches were very closely contested. Caesars Palace were represented by two teams while Claremorris and Ballina represented Mayo,CYMS and North West represented Donegal while Galway were also
represented by Brook Lodge and Tuam. In the opening group match in group A Caesars Palace narrowly defeated raining Connacht Champions North West. While in Group B Ballina over came a inexperienced
Claremorris and CYMS saw off the challenge of the Caesars B team. The other match in group A paired Tuam against a very fancied Brook Lodge with Brook lodge winning 3-2 with an effort of 102 by James Fennessy in his
match. Tuam opened their account in their second set of matches against Caesars
Palace A team while Brook Lodge insured qualification with victory over an under strength North West. In the final Game of group A Brook Lodge narrowly defeated Caesars Palace in tight affair while Tuam
got the upper hand on North West to gain the second quill faction spot in group A. Group B was dominated by Ballina and CYMS with both teams accounting for Claremorris and Caesars Palace B. Balina edged out CYMS in
their final game to top their group and set up a show piece final with Brook Lodge. Sean Conway defeated Garry Monroe to give Ballina a early lead only for Shane O Hara to level it up with a defeat of Noel Barrett.
Kevin Monroe defeated Lee Jackson while Darren Flaherty accounted for James Fennessy to level the final at 2 all. The final came down to a tight affair between Brook Lodges captain Martin Divilly and
Ballina's Martin Hopkins with Divilly producing an excellent match winning break to capture the title at the first attempt for Brook Lodge who will be a force to be reckoned with come Killarney.
