The New Vic and St Johns Snooker Clubs hosted the DGD Papers Sponsored Limerick Senior Championship 2008 on Sunday 6th last. The entry included all of the top limerick players and produced some great
matches throughout the day. In the top half of the draw Jason Waters had fine wins over Kevin Mc Mahon, Neil Madigan and Frank Sarsfield, but his run was halted by John Torpey in the Semi final. John progressed to the final
after being taken all the way 3-2 by Mike Howley in the first round and then had wins against Thomas Hickey and Jason Waters to reach the decider.
In the other half Vincent Meaney was in very good form and had good wins over David Lawlor (3-2), Pat Ryan and in the match of the day against high fancied Mario Fernandez 4-3 in the semi final. Vincent
looked favorite in the final having opened a 2-1 advantage, but John took a close 4th frame to level 2-2, the next 2 frames could have gone either way, but John took advantage of the few chances that came his way to close out
a hard fought final 4-2. Thanks to DGD Papers Waste recycling in Limerick for sponsoring the event, and also to St Johns Snooker Club who held all matches from Qtr finals onwards and had the tables and club in excellent
condition.
