Noel Landers is Under 14 Rebel County Snooker Champion

NOEL Landers from Youghal CYMS is the new Cork County under 14 champion after an impressive performance at the Tom Aherne sponsored event in Fermoy CYMS last Sunday afternoon.Landers was a two frames to one frame winner over fellow club member Ross Bulman in the final and just like last year with Youghal CYMS player Keane McCarthy winning the title, the success of the Youghal CYMS under age structure continues as Landers keeps the title at the home of Youghal CYMS.

Derek O'Neill Chairman of the Cork Billiards and Snooker Association (CBSA) told Rebel Snooker “The standard here in Fermoy today was extremely high and when you consider how young some of these players are the future of the game in Cork looks bright. If these young players continue to improve then in a few years we will be talking about them the way we do nowadays about the likes of Ryan Cronin and Greg Casey. I want to thank Tom Aherne from Fermoy for his very generous sponsorship, support from sponsors is vital and Tom is of course very involved with snooker with the Fermoy CYMS for many years so he understands the need for support within Cork Snooker, so if anyone else out there wants to get involved we would be delighted to hear from them”.

The Cork Snooker league continued this week with the exception of the Douglas 'B' versus the Crucible game, due to a bereavement in the Busteed family and our sympathies and deepest condolences are with Karl and Martin Busteed and the entire family at this very difficult time.

Meanwhile there were two matches played as Youghal showed their early season dominance with another fine win away to the AOH winning by eight frames to six frames in the very tough venue for visiting teams on 'Morrison's Island'.

Top players on the night for Youghal were Adrian Landers who beat Sonny Stack by three frames to nil, Brendan Cooney recently very impressive in the 'National Masters' ranking events was equally impressive at the AOH beating Shane O'Mahony in his home club, not a lot of people will do that this year.

Youghal are perfect so far in the league, six matches played and six victories to further cement their position at the top of the 'CBSA League Table'.

One other game on offer last week as Youghal CYMS 'C' took on Youghal CYMS 'B' and after the sensational win for the Youghal 'C' team two weeks ago by eight frames to seven, the Youghal 'B' side were determined to make amends and did so in some style with an eight frames to one frame victory, with stand out performances from Chris Lyons who won his match by three frames to nil and Ian Hennessy who was also in good form.

The win gives the Youghal 'B' team the opportunity to get back on track and it keeps alive the hope of making it to the play-off semi finals come next February or March.

Congratulations to William Kelly of the Youghal CYMS 'B' team who recently won the 'Kevin Mangan Memorial' tournament held recently. William was one of 38 players who came out on top in a one frame shoot out format and was the last man standing after an intensive night of snooker.

The Cork County under 19 championship will be held at Youghal CYMS on the fourth of December.
