STARS CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS 2012 

On Saturday 5th May the 3rd Stars Champion of Champions got underway in The Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow. In the Quarters Daniel Dempsey from Sharkx club Newbridge had a good 3 nil defeat with breaks of 37 & 43 over Dylan Hurley from Carlow going through to the semis. Young Fergal Quinn from Dungannon had a good 3 nil win over Sean Dunne from Carlow to give him a semi-final line up with Daniel Dempsey. Nine year old Corey Ramsbottom from Carlow had a very close match against Gary Seales from Dublin with the match levelled at 2-2 the 5th and final frame was nip and tuck for a while until Corey fired in a break of 43 to take the match. Charlie Sweeney from Kildare took Limericks Liam Nix 3 frames to 1 with breaks of 24 and 43 along the way to complete the semi final line up. Daniel Dempsey was in good form against Fergal and reached the final winning 3 – 1. On the other table Corey started with a break of 39 but Charlie closed out the frame to go 1 up frame 2 saw Charlie again win on the colours and in frame 3 had a break of 42 to give him a 3 nil win and a place in the final against fellow Kildare man Daniel Dempsey. In the final Daniel took the first with breaks of 21 and 24 and the next with a break of 31 but Charlie replied in the 3rd with a break of 38 to trail 2-1. The 4th frame saw some great safety play from both players but the day was Daniels taking it with a break of 25 and give him the title of Stars Champion of Champions 2012.James Hurley from Carlow and Liam Nix from Limerick contested the plate final with Liam winning with a break of 25 in the last frame. Congratulations to Daniel on his win and to Charlie for a fine performance on the day. Thanks to all the parents, mentors and the participants for their much appreciated support and thanks to Annette Newman who helped out throughout the day.  Thanks to Marian and Jim and staff of the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club for all their help and support on the day and providing excellent facilities.

Dan Carroll

Dan Carroll has been involved with Stars of the future events since 1984 and is now the events director for same. He has been promoting junior snooker for over 30 years and is now the head coach for Stars Academy Ireland and the Dublin Snooker Federation.  Now a W.P.B.S.A. Coach and a qualified Sports Psychologist he is concentrating on promoting the sport through Schools & Colleges throughout Ireland. Dan believes that growing the game from grass root level is extremely important and that by bringing the sport to the Schools & Colleges, snooker will now be experienced by a greater audience than ever before.
