Sunday saw the bottom half of the draw for the 2012 Irish Senior Championships played off and Vincent Muldoon was the first man to claim his spot on the day after two 4-0 victories over Peter Dunne and John Lynch before seeing off Cork's David Cassidy 4-2 in the final qualifying round.

Cassidy had come through a couple of tough matches against Jim Carrick and especially his 4-3 win over Anthony Bonnar before putting up a good display against the No.3 seed. However Muldoon was just too strong on the day and will now face Robert Redmond in the quarter finals in Letterkenny. 

Redmond saw off Alan Cusack 4-0 in the first of his three matches on Sunday and then had a hard fought 4-2 win over ex-champion Tom Gleeson before seeing off John O'Sullivan 4-2 in the final match to qualify. 

Our next qualifier probably had the hardest draw of them all over the weekend with a first round match against Kilkenny's Benny O'Brien. Johnny came through that match 4-1 to set up a clash against two time champion TJ Dowling who had been playing some superb snooker in his early matches that day. It was Williams however who progressed seeing off the ex-champ 4-2 on the day and then saw off No.10 seed Vincent Meaney 4-0 to reach the finals. 

The last section of the draw saw No.2 seed Brendan O'Donoghue waiting around a while for his matches but when he did get to play he showed his quality seeing off Mark McCarron 4-0, Kevin Monroe 4-2 and then Dublin's Philip Browne 4-0 to set up a clash with Williams in two weeks time in Letterkenny.

The finals weekend will take place on the 26th-27th of May in The Northwest Snooker Club in Letterkenny and there should be some great snooker played over the weekend.
