Youghal Juniors steal the show

Day One of the championships weekend is now over and it will be McCrudden against Muldoon in the mens senior final tomorrow, and what a match that should be. An action packed day was had here in the Northwest Snooker Club with four newly crowned Irish Champions in the various categories.

Tonights matches saw Youghal Snooker Club in Cork victorious in both the Under-14 and Under-16 Championship final thanks to both Noel Landers and Adam Fitzgearld. Noel performed miracles coming back from 3-0 down to see off Fergal Quinn 4-3 to take the title to the delight of the large crowd of supporters who braved the 6 hour drive from Co.Cork.

In the Under-16's Adam took a 3-0 lead over local lad Chris Duffy but the nerves were showing as Chris fought back to 3-2 by it was Adam who held his nerve in the end to see off the Letterkenny youngster and take the title.

It wasn't going to be a hat trick of titles however as Brendan Cooney found Nenagh's Tommy Gleeson just too strong on the day and Tommy added the Masters Title to his Senior title from many moons ago. He ran out an eventual 6-1 winner in the end.

All that was left was a little matter of seeing who would contest the Men's final and Muldoon was in superb form yet again blitzing Williams in the first three frames with breaks of 116, 70 and 54. Williams fought back with a 77 and took the next in style with a 70 clearance after Muldoon opened with 63.

Muldoon however had a 75 in the next and took the next two frames for victory and will now be aiming to capture his third national title. He will hoever face a three time champion Martin McCrudden in the final although it wasn't looking good for Martin early on tonight.

Goggins opened up well going 3-1 up but a superb 116 spurred McCrudden and he took the next four frames to put him through to the final.

Whatever happens it should be a great final with two of the most attacking players on the circuit and we hope to stream it live tomorrow. We aimed to do it today but poor network problems didn't help, all looks fixed now anyway and we will let you know the link here and on our facebook page when we have it.
