STARS ALL IRELAND JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP 2012
RESULTS
On Saturday 2nd June the Stars All Ireland Junior Championship took place in The Ivy Rooms Snooker Club, Carlow. With an entry of 25 young players including the plate competition from around the Country meant a good day’s snooker competition was in store and it was not disappointing as the standard was high. Charlie Sweeney the current number 1 on the National rankings from Newbridge was the first surprise upset of the day when Jordan Doyle from St Pats in Gorey won the close encounter 2-1 in their quarter final match. On the other side of the draw 9 year old Corey Ramsbottom from Carlow was the second upset of the day with Dylan O’Connell from Dublin going through to the quarters winning 2-1. Jordan Walker from Carlow was responsible for seeing off the Irish number 2 Michael Woods 2-1 to give him a quarter final place. Ryan Dixon from St Pats in Gorey also had a good win over Jordan Walker 2-1 to give him a semi final meeting with stable mate Jordan Doyle. In the bottom half of the draw Dylan O’Connell still on a high from beating Corey went through to the semis beating Craig Doyle also from St Pats in Gorey 2 frames to 1. Fergal Quinn from Dungannon had two good wins over Liam Nix from Limerick 2-1 and a 2-nil defeat over Stephen Bateman from Kilkenny to give him a semi final meeting with Dylan. In their semi final match Ryan Dixon had a good start with a break of 35 but Jordan Doyle came back strong to take the frame and went on to take the second with some great potting and safety play to give him his first National junior Stars final. On the other table Fergal Quinn proved the stronger on the day and went through winning 2-0. The final itself was tense with both players missing some easy shots with the match levelled at 1-1 the final frame was very tactical but Jordan took advantage of a few mistakes by Fergal and took the frame and the title as All Ireland junior Stars Champion 2012. The plate final was contested by Liam Nix from Limerick and Darragh Cusack from Dublin with Liam taking the plate title back to Limerick winning 2-0. Congratulations to our winners and runners up and to all who took part and made this event the success it was. Thanks to our sponsors Irish Rubies in Dublin for the prizes.
