Griffith €3,000 Classic Tour 6 L-r Annette Newman & Ronan Deegan (Winner)

The Griffith Classic Tour 6 got underway at Sharkx snooker club Newbridge on Saturday 21st July. A good days competition was had with some great battles on the table for places on the rankings that will guarantee a healthy prize fund. First up was father and son quarter final match between Dave and Gary Seales with the match leveled at 1-1 the 3rd frame was tense but Dave proved the stronger on the day and took it on the colors. The quickest match was between Ronan Deegan and Anthony Clifford with both players on form but with quick consecutive breaks of 29 and 38 Ronan took the first with Anthony firing in an early break of 30 but Ronan in form came back to take the match and a semi final meeting with Dave. Paddy Fagan and Robert Rogers match was very tactical and slow with both players level and going down to the pink and black in the 3rd frame it was Robert who potted the pink and a difficult black to secure him a semi final place. Annette Newman was in good form beating Dan Carroll 2 frames to nil to set her up against Robert in the semis. Dave and Ronan leveled their match 1-1 but true to form Ronan had the edge in the tactical game and went into his 3rd consecutive final. Annette was playing very well and had a comfortable 2 nil defeat over Robert to place her in her second final of the tour. In the final Annette took the first frame on the black Ronan responded with a black ball finish in the second the 3rd frame was a scrappy affair and went down to the colors Annette took on a good pot on the blue to give her a reasonable chance to pot the pink for game but left it hanging on the pocket, Ronan took both balls for game and match. Congratulations to Ronan on his win and to Annette for her fine performance on the day and to all the players for their support. Thanks to Bernie and Ross of Sharkx for their excellent facilities and support of these events. On the rankings Annette now has taking the number one spot and is now poised to take the overall club champion position if all goes well in the next tour event. Top 4 on the tour are Annette Newman 620 pts, Gary Seales 610 pts, Dave Seales 570 pts and Dan Carroll 520 pts. The top 4 in the plate rankings are Paddy Fagan 30 pts, Dan Carroll 26 pts and 9 merit pts, Larry O'Dea 26 and 8, Dave Seales 26 and 6.
