Josh Boileau from Newbridge CYMS played superb snooker to reach the semi finals of the 2012 European Junior Open which was played in the South West Academy in Gloucester England this week.

Josh was placed in Group C against players from Hong Kong, Russia, Wales and two from England and Josh played fantastic and won all matches 3 frames to nil and he was seeded at number 1 for the Knock out rounds.

In the last 32 Josh Beat Sybren Sokolowski from Belgium 3 – 0 with breaks of 60 & 41. In the last 16 he beat Ashley Carty from England in a final frame shootout 3 -2.

In the Q-Final he beat Brian Cini from Malta 3 frames to 2 in another exciting final frame win. In the Semi final he was beaten by England International Elliot Slessor 4 frames to 2.

Irish number 1 Under 16 player Andrew Doherty and Mayo man Aaron Moyles also competed in the Event with Andrew winning 3 out 5 matches to qualify for the last 32 where he was beaten by Callum Llyod from Wales 3 -1. Aaron won one match in the group and did not qualify.

The eventual winner was Shane Castle when he beat Elliot Slessor 5 frames to 2 in a high quality final and he was presented the perpetual cup by Jim Leacy chairman of the EBSA.
